We had a great overnight trip!!! Left the dock at 5pm on Friday and returned around 7 on Saturday night. Weather was great, seas were calm and fish were biting!!! Swordfish was our main targeted species that night and we ended up catching one around 175lbs and pulling the other off estimated around 60-80lbs. At daylight we put our lures out and started looking for the rip, not 30 minutes after we put them in we had a double header of White Marlin!! Both anglers had never caught a billfish and one was only 8 years old!!! After releasing both White Marlin we found the rip and started going to war on Mahi!! The amount of Mahi on this rip was unbelievable, we could have filled the boat but we were searching for something much bigger!!! We got what we were looking for..... only on the wrong lure...... A giant blue Marlin ate one of our ballyhoo rigs (150lb test leader) on a 50 wide Penn International VSW. The fish never stopped and took us down to a quarter of a spool before we could clear our lines and start backing down. The leader ended up breaking right above the hook and we never got to see her again. After all that happened the bite slowed down a bit so we pulled the lures in and busted out the spinning tackle. Ended up sight fishing for some bigger mahi around all the big grass patches, found and caught a hand full, pulled the hooks on one around 40lbs. That wrapped up our trip and we started making our way back to Destin with an 80 mile ride in. A great trip with great people!!!
